The Marine Mammal Care Center is a hospital for sick and injured marine mammals that are stranded along the Los Angeles County coastline. Located in San Pedro, they primarily treat and release rescued California sea lions, northern elephant seals, Pacific harbor seals, and northern fur seals. Visitors are not permitted “behind the scenes” and are kept a safe distance from the animals. This helps to provide a low stress environment during the patients’ rehabilitation, as well as to enable their natural wild behavior.

Korean Friendship Bell and Point Fermin Lighthouse
Thursday, July 20, 2017
1:30pm to 4:30pm
Meet at the registration desk at 1:30pm

Resting peacefully on the knoll overlooking the sea gate from which U.S. troops sailed into the Pacific, this location affords an unsurpassed view of the Los Angeles harbor, the Catalina Channel and the sea terraces of San Pedro hill. The Korean Friendship Bell is rung only four times each year: the Fourth of July, August 15 (Korean Independence Day), in September to coincide with bell ringings around the country to celebrate Constitution week, and on New Year's Eve. This massive and intricately decorated bell and pavilion was donated in 1976 to the people of Los Angeles by the people of the Republic of Korea to celebrate the bicentennial of the United States independence, honor veterans of the Korean War, and to consolidate traditional friendship between the two countries.
